Memo: Report of Tests at Sandy Beach

In this previously TOP SECRET memo dated April 9, 1945 from Norman F. Ramsey to Don Mastick the status of testing at Sandy Beach (code name for Salton Sea Test Base) and Kingman are provided.

The memo outlines a “mishap” and describes the loss of airplane #235:

The only major mishap during this month was the loss of airplane #235 by fire. The #1 engine burst into fire while the plane was directly over the field. The plane was quickly landed and the crew left the plane safely. Since the entire wing section was damaged, this plane will no longer be available for use by the 216th Flight Test Section.Top Secret memo dated April 9, 1945
